History of Ram Temple
For Hindus, Lord Rama is not just a king or a character but he is a God and he is highly revered by Hindus. He is so popular that people say “Ram Ram” in common greetings in North India. Ram is one of the most searched terms on Google and other search engines.
The history of Shri Ram Temple is very old. Hindus believe that there was a grand temple at the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram, superior to other temples. Many old temples were demolished during Babur’s invasion and his reign. On his orders, his commander Mir Baqi demolished the old Ram temple and built a mosque at that place.
After the fall of Mughal rule in independent India, Hindus had long been demanding a grand Ram temple at the mosque site. Many cases were filed from time to time in the local court and the High Court. It was the reign of former Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi when the locks of the temple were opened for worship.
Who is the chief architect of Ram Temple?
The chief architect of Ram temple is Chandrakant Sompura. This famous architect was assisted by his two sons – Nikhil and Ashish who are equally famous architects. The Sompura family has a long history and has been involved in over 100 temple projects around the world for generations. The architecture of the divine temple is in Nagara style and iron has not been used in it due to the risk of rusting.
Bhoomi Pujan of Ram Temple
It was the auspicious day of 5th August 2020 when the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of Ram Temple was held. Ram Charan Puja was performed on 4th August in which major deities were invoked. Soil and holy water from Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kaveri and many other famous Indian rivers were brought in the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony. PM Narendra Modi officially performed Bhoomi Pujan by placing 40 kg silver brick in the foundation.
